Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
